For the moment it's just the main group of characters with bio's, but others will be added, and the bio's will be updated after the release of any new book.
Oh, and if you missed it, the release date for From the Ashes has been pushed back to November 5th.
In other news, I have now combined my two writing journals (I used to have a separate journal for my horror writing). So all writing/book related stuff will be posted here, while my other journal (link below) will be for posting non-writing related things.
Sorry! It will be worth the wait, I promise.
To make everyone feel better (and to calm any rage that this news may have ignited), here's a cute picture of Nessie sleeping.
The cover was done by Amygdala Design, and I think Ida did an amazing job.
Here is the blurb for From the Ashes (Into the Night #2):
Logan, still reeling from the death of his closest friend, has reunited with his parents. He has escaped Thomas Gerard and the estate, but he knows it isn’t over. Gerard will come after them all again. He won’t stop at just one attack.
As if that wasn't enough, Logan can't shake his growing feelings for Pepper. But when the girl you have a crush on is the vampire who slaughtered a man in front of you, things can get a little complicated. And complications are the last thing Logan needs. As he’s drawn into the search for Pepper's remaining family, what they don’t know is that Pepper’s sister is alive and on a search of her own.
And what none of them know is that Thomas Gerard may not be their only threat.
Not long to go now until the release. :)
Bad news, guys. I've had to push the release of From the Ashes back a bit. It will now be released on October 1st. So just a little bit longer to wait.
Well, that's actually all I had to say. This was just a quick post to let you all know about the release date and also that I will continue soon with my series of posts about how Into the Night came about.
Posted via LiveJournal app for iPad.
So, in my last post, I mentioned that I would be making various posts about how Into the Night came about. This is the first of those and I will be talking about how I got the original idea for the series. Here goes.
Quite some time ago I had a dream and it’s where I got the idea for Into the Night from. I’m not the first writer to get a story from a dream, I’ve done it myself even before Into the Night, but I’m a little surprised how far the story has come from that original dream.
Okay, so this dream. Well, in the dream I walked into an arena and in the arena was a pit (just like in the book). In the pit were two vampire lambs (yes, I said vampire lambs), as well a regular female vampire, who was acting as a kind of mentor as the vampire lambs fought. While they fought, a girl watched on from the floor above and she knew what was going to happen in the fight because she was precognitive. That was it. If you’re familiar with Into the Night you will know who the girl and the vampire are - Penny and Pepper. They came from that dream. The other thing I got from it was the idea of humans fighting supernatural creatures in an arena for the entertainment of the rich. This was sort of tweaked from what was in the actual dream because although a book about vampire lambs fighting would have been totally awesome, I decided not to go with it.
So, after the dream I had three things: two characters – a psychic and a vampire - as well as a very small idea. I’ve always loved reading YA books and had been wanting to write one of my own for a while, and as I had been reading a lot of YA paranormal at the time I thought I could do something with what the dream gave me. I didn’t plan to work on the idea, as there were other stories I wanted to work on, but it stayed in my head. Over the next month after the dream I started making notes and transforming the three things I took from the dream into an actual story idea. I introduced characters and came up with a plot, and a month after having the dream, I started working on it properly.
There you have it. That’s how the original idea for Into the Night came about. I just had a random weird dream (which isn’t unusual) that I was able to extract a cool idea from (in my opinion, anyway).
I mentioned above how I transformed the three things I took from the dream into an actual story, which is what I will discuss next time. Stay tuned for: The plot (and how Into the Night got from the original idea to what it is today).
Last time I did some Into the Night fun facts, but I have none this time so you get a random Nessie fun fact (for those of you who don’t know, Nessie is my dog).
Nessie fun fact #1
Nessie’s name is not Nessie. It’s a nickname. Her real name is Inverness (she was named after the city in Scotland), but she’s just always been called Nessie.

Sorry, that’s a happy Happy, but close enough. I still can’t confirm a release date for From the Ashes yet. I may have more of an idea of that next week, but I know it won’t be out before August. I WILL keep you all updated.
Over the next months I will be making various posts about how Into the Night came about. This will include posts where I go on about the original idea, the plot, the characters, the setting, the creatures/abilities, etc. If there's something that you would like to know more about, just let me know and I can post about that as well.
The first post I will be making will be about how I got the idea for Into the Night.
So that's about all from me for now, but I will leave you with some Into the Night fun facts.
Fun Fact: There are a few references in Into the Night that were put in for my own amusement. These are:
*The name of the zombies - The zombie that fights on the second Fight Night is named Barbara. I think it's pretty obvious that she was named after the character Barbara from Night of the Living Dead (my favourite zombie movie. Or movies I should say because both the 1968 and 1990 versions are my favourites - I can't decide). The zombie from the first Fight Night is named Gavin. Now this one isn't as obvious. He was named after the character Gavin from the TV show Angel (who became a zombie and was then forever known as zombie Gavin by me and my housemate).
*Gena becoming the 'Gate Keeper' for the blood spell on Logan's parents' house is a Ghostbusters reference.
*At the beginning of chapter 33: Monster - Penny walks away from a group of Thomas's guests as they discuss 'mergers and acquisitions' - This is an American Psycho reference.
Like I said, they were inserted for my own amusement. :)

Anyway, moving on to more important things, which aren't actually that important because I don't really have that much to talk about. Hmmm, let's see. Well, first of all I decided that Into the Night needed a new cover. My apologies to those who like the original cover, but I think that the new cover fits the book better and when it comes to doing the covers for the rest of the books in the series it will tie in better (I think I said better too many times). I haven't changed the cover over yet because I thought I would wait until the paperback comes out (the zombie apocalypse may occur before I get the paperback out). So, here it is. Let me know what you think.

In other Into the Night related news, I am currently working on the second book in the series, From the Ashes. I'm hoping to have it out by June or July this year, so fingers crossed. I also want to add some more things to the website (www.intothenightseries.com) like character bios and creature mythology and stuff.
While whipping From the Ashes into shape, I've also been considering giving one of my old manuscripts a re-vamp. It's a fantasy novel and a while back I thought of making it into a YA fantasy novel, because it would work better as one, but it would need a lot of changes, and at the time, I think I was too attached to it. I'm still attached to it, but I can look at it with fresher eyes now and I think I can make it work. I haven't decided for sure yet if I will go ahead and publish it, but if I do, I'll keep you updated.
And then next up on the writing schedule will be the third book in the Into the Night series (I will reveal the title later), as well as my first sci-fi novel (I have never written sci-fi and I'm totally scared about doing it, but I love this idea too much not to write it). Unfortunately I'm a very slow writer, so I at least hope Into the Night ~ Book Three is out before the zombie apocalypse. This is why I need a clone, so I can get things done quicker (but the clone would probably procrastinate as much as I do).
Well, that's about it. Let's hope that my next post isn't two months from now. :)

Please help spread the word. I want to giveaway lots of copies, which will make me very happy and distract from the horror that I face this week (I know, I know. I'm being melodramatic).
